NCCEC 2005 held in Lipa

 

NCCEC 2005 DelegatesThe Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (ECCCE) started the year right by conducting a joint consultation meeting with the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) early January. The National Catechetical and Catholic Education Consultation (NCCEC), which was spearheaded by the ECCCE Chairman, His Excellency Most Rev. Socrates B. Villegas, DD, was held at the Capuchin Retreat Center in Lipa City, Batangas last January 10-13, 2005.

This activity is part of the Commission’s ongoing “CATECHETICAL AND CATHOLIC EDUCATION STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 2004 and BEYOND” to coordinate the various pastoral priorities of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines in the area of Catechesis and Catholic Education. It was participated in by a total of 165 Diocesan Catechetical Directors and Coordinators, Heads and Coordinators of various Catechetical Formation Centers and Religious Department of the different Colleges and Universities, and as well as Diocesan/Congregational School Superintendents, representing (68) different archdioceses, dioceses and prelatures all over the country.

Following the 5-point agenda (legislative, accreditation, catechetical, catholic education and curricular) presented by the ECCCE Executive Secretary Msgr. Gerardo Santos, the following are the objectives of the meeting:

  • To strengthen communion among diocesan catechetical directors/ coordinators and heads of catechetical centers, colleges and universities with Religious Education Program and diocesan/congregational school superintendents towards a greater sense of mission;
  • To critique the two draft documents on the certification of Religious Education program in Catholic Schools, colleges and universities and the certification of Catechetical Centers and colleges/universities offering Religious Education;
  • To review the draft documents on the manual of superintendents and the management audit of Catholic schools;
  • To present salient features of the proposed laws in the mandatory religious instruction and subsidy scheme to private elementary and secondary schools; and
  • To share practices in the supervision of catechists.

This rare gathering of advocates of catechesis and Catholic education was graced with the presence three important guest-bishops: His Excellency, Most Rev. Fernando R. Capalla, DD - CBCP President and Archbishop of Davao; Most Rev. Ramon C. Arguelles, DD, Archbishop of the host city, Lipa; and Most Rev. Sofronio A. Bancud, DD - ECCCE Vice-Chairman and Bishop of Cabanatuan.
