  2. Add also “GCD, GDC, and DOCUMENTS ON EVANGELIZATION and CATECHESIS”. (Group 4B)

Q5 Do you agree on the present division of EMLC into two parts?

  • A5 - Yes, but make special provisions for those who do not have a solid catechetical foundation. (Group 4A)

CONCERNING THE BASIC COMMON PRINCIPLES and FEATURES

Q6 Do you agree with the overall content of EMLC followed in the present draft?

  • A6 - Instead of “FINAL SYNTHESIS” use “INTEGRATION”. (Groups 3A and 3B)
  1. What’s the meaning of “FOUNDATION”? Is it about revelation and faith? (Group 3B) Answer: YES! Cf. CFC.
  2. Add to content “ELEMENTS OF INTER-RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE” and “INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE”. (Group 4B)

Q7 Do you agree that the EMLC should aim not only at offering a clear knowledge of the truths of the faith, but also at fostering adequate attitudes, which lead to a behavior that is consistent with the knowledge imparted and the attitudes fostered?

  • A7 - Yes, but add “VALUES” before “attitudes”. (Groups 3A and 3B)
  1. Add “PRAYER and SACRAMENTAL LIFE”. (Group 3B)
  2. Add “INTEGRATION OF LIFE and FAITH” in the intrinsic relationship of knowledge, attitudes and behavior. (Group 4B)

Q8 Do you agree on the three forms of “Faithfulness” that should characterize the EMLC?

  • A8 - Replace “FAITHFULNESS TO MAN” with “FAITHFULNESS TO HUMANKIND”. (Group 1)
  1. Replace “FAITHFULNESS TO MAN” with “FAITHFULNESS TO HUMAN” (Group 3B)
  2. Add “INTEGRATED” under “FAITHFULNESS TO MAN / HUMAN” (Group 3B)
  3. Add “STEWARDSHIP” under “FAITHFULNESS TO MAN”. (Group 4B)

Q9 Do you agree that the EMLC should follow the pattern of “Invitation-Response” in each of the three dimensions of the Catholic faith?

  • A9 - Use “CALL-RESPONSE” instead of “INVITATION-RESPONSE”. (Group 3B)
  1. Use “CALL and FAITH RESPONSE” instead of “INVITATION-RESPONSE”. (Group 4B)
  2. Go beyond the “INVITATION-RESPONSE” pattern and emphasize the “RELATIONAL DIMENSION”. (Group 4A)

Q10 Do you agree on the need to have a “Unifying Perspective”?

  • A10 - Use “KAGINHAWAHAN” instead of “ KINGDOM OF GOD ” (Group 1)
  1. Add “UNIFYING and INTEGRATING PERSPECTIVE” instead of “UNIFYING PERSPECTIVE”. (Group 2)
  2. Yes, but the term “ KINGDOM OF GOD ” should be inculturated. (Group 3A)
  3. “ KINGDOM OF GOD ” could be focused sharply on Christ. (Group 4B)

CONCERNING THE ESSENTIAL CONTENT FOR DIFFERENT AGE BRACKETS

Q11 Do you agree with the present division into “clusters” of different Elementary Grades of High School Years?

  • A11 - Break cluster #1 (Prep through Grade 3) into the following: Prep; Grades 1 & 2; Grade 3. Reason: Prep is very special; Grades 1 & 2 are closely related; Grade 3 requires preparation for First Communion. (Group 1)
  1. Break cluster #1 into the following: Kinder to Prep; Grade 1 through Grade 3. (Groups 2 and 4A)
  2. Include Pre-school; Tertiary level and Adult Education. (Group 3B)
  3. Make special provisions for those in the public schools or settings with special needs. (Group 4A)
  4. Groupings must be by Year-level and not by age. (Group 4B)

Q12 Is the present content of the Outline Form for every cluster good enough, too short, or too long?

  • A12- Content is good for private schools but too long for public schools. Identify priority items. (Group 2)
  1. Content is too long. (Group 3B)
  2. Content of ‘FOUNDATION SECTION” of the draft for the 1st and 2nd year does not seem to be reflective of the actual youth situation in the Philippines . (Group 3B)
  3. #4 Among “Sources of the faith and religious practices of the Filipino Catholic pre-adolescent” includes their friends or barkada. (Group 3B)
  4. # 5 Challenges which the Filipino Catholic pre-adolescents encounter concerning their faith must include media and barkada. (Group 3B)
  5. Content of the faith has to be directly related to the experience concerns, questions of students, such as: friendships/love life and family. (Group 3B)
  6. Content is too much. We suggest a development of a grid to clearly show the “CYCLICAL DEVELOPMENT” or treatment of each topic, the “SPECIFIC FOCUS” and its “CYCLICAL PROGRESSION”. (Group 4A)

Q13 Are you satisfied with the style followed in the Draft or would you like to suggest an alternative style?

  • A13 - Use “CONTEXT” instead of “foundation”.
  1. Use integration in the teaching of doctrine/ morals/worship – not as disparate topics unrelated to each other.
  2. Use of Scripture texts and Church teaching.
  3. Page 9, No. 8 of the expanded draft for 1st and 2nd Year High School
  4. The definition of the sacraments does not take into account the disposition of the person receiving the sacrament. The message of the faith has to be directly involved with context of the students. (Group 3B) Answer: The draft cannot say everything. For the development see the CFC.
  5. Add a GENERAL PROFILE of the students for each level with the recommendation that it should be adapted to different contexts, settings, etc. (Group 4A)

Q14 Do you feel that the present draft of the EMLC is lacking something that you consider very important?

  • A14 - Add “ADULT CATECHESIS”, “PRE-SACRAMENTAL”, and “FAMILY CATECHESIS”. (Group 2)
  1. Present draft of the EMLC has “too much content, lacks integration, and does not address the needs of our students. Faith is presented as information to be simply memorized.” (Group 3B)
  2. Content is “too much”. (Group 4A)

Q15 Do you have any other comments or suggestions concerning the content and format of the present Draft of EMLC?

  • A15 - Add aspect of “INTEGRITY OF CREATION”. (Group 2)
  1. What about “HEAVEN, HELL, and PURGATORY”? Are they still taught? (Group 2)
  2. Show in a diagram the “CENTRALITY OF THE WORD OF GOD and ITS INFLUENCE” so as to create a Biblical culture in the heart of anyone. (Group 4A)
  3. Stress the “RELATIONAL DIMENSION”. (Group 4A)
  4. In the MORAL AREA, veer away from the “do’s and don’t’s” and stress the growing relational dimension geared toward salvation/wholeness / fullness of life. (Group 4A)
  5. State that there is more to catechesis than just the CONTENT. (Group 4A)
  6. Religion class has to be seen as “LIFE” and not just like any academic subject. (Group 4A)

SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS

Under “DOCTRINE” include the topic of “HEAVEN and EARTH” and the “DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY”. (Group 1)
