TWO-FOLD COMPONENT OF THE PROGRAM
A. BASIC FAITH FORMATION (BFF)
Rationale
PCP II defines a renewed catechesis as one that is systematic, integrated,
Christocentric and truly Filipino. This Council urges those who will take the
challenge of evangelization to take into account the nature and conditions of
the Philippine society today particularly the Filipino value and belief system.
In response to this call, the Catechism For the Filipino Catholics was conceived
in the context of PCP II’s Pastoral Plan. This program is adapted from
this Catechism (CFC) which presents the operational principles for an integral
renewed catechesis.
As an initial phase of the whole program, it is intended to those who need to
complete their initiation through instruction in the basic foundation of Christian
Faith. It aims to orient the participants with the basic doctrines of the Church
as contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Catechism for the
Filipino Catholics. It is hoped that this initial phase of the program will
adequately prepare the participants to the second phase – the Basic Catechetical
Formation (BCF).
B. BASIC CATECHETICAL FORMATION (BCF)
Phase Two introduces the participants to the paradigm of renewed integral faith
formation. It is designed for those who have been initiated in the basic elements
of the Christian faith, but who need constantly to nourish and deepen their
faith throughout their lives (GDC, 51). This program gives the catechist-to-be
an experience and overall view of Christian life in an organic and systematic
way. It also aims to help catechists, would be catechists and religion teachers
to be at home with their apostolate of communicating the Christian Message.
It employs the norms and criteria set by the Church, namely, 1) Biblical; 2)
Christocentric; 3) Contextualized; 4) Inculturated and Indigenous and, Community
forming. This part is open to all those who will engage themselves in the Ministry
of the Word of God through evangelization and catechesis (catechists, religion
teachers, pastoral workers, lay leaders of ecclesial groups, members of religious
congregations, seminarians, etc.
