The
Manila Archdiocesan and Parochial Schools Association
(MAPSA)
HISTORY
The
idea of unifying the archdiocesan and parochial
schools in the Archdiocese of Manila under one
umbrella organization was conceived as early as
the 1950's. It was the consensus of the Archbishop's
Council to better direct and administer the twenty-nine
(29) schools already in existence at that time.
The setup remained quite informal for several
years with the late Rufino J. Cardinal Santos,
who was then the Archbishop of Manila, calling
the meetings from time to time. In 1956, the Archbishop
appointed the first committee of Archdiocesan
priests to act as a board and lay out the promulgation
of a decree of the Archbishop on November 15,
1960 creating the Manila Archdiocesan and Parochial
Schools Association (MAPSA) and the ratification
of its constitution.
